About foot problems / foot deformities, surgical treatment of hallux, flat feet

Foot deformities cause chronic and painful ailments and problems with selection of proper shoes. Most frequent is the case of "sensitive foot."

A "sensitive foot" features a widening of the front of the foot, various deformity of the first metatarsal bone and subsequent hallux valgus. Additionally, the bursa above the head of first metatarsal bone becomes overgrown, which makes the foot even wider. There might be also concurrent transverse flat foot with painful callosities under the heads of the second and third metatarsal bones, as well as hammer toes.

The ailment occurs mostly in women (hereditary susceptibilities, weak foot ligaments, and wearing inappropriate shoes). It is characterized by chronic pain, reduced gait efficiency and ugly foot deformations.

In the early stages, orthopedic transverse or longitudinal arch supports are used in therapy. A series of appropriate exercises can also improve foot mobility and muscle system.

More serious deformities require OPERATIVE TREATMENT.
